My very touching sister-in-law, Jill, sent this to inform me of the very bad day ahead of us. Not only is it my birthday on monday, but also my younger and more fashionable brother matt, Jill's husband. Maybe we should both plan to just stay inside that day. Eeek.

Thanks Jill...
Jan. 24 called worst day of the year Monday, Jan. 24, will be "the most depressing day of the year," according to a British psychologist's calculations. MSNBC.com's Jennifer Carlile reports. http://g.msn.com/0MNBUS00/2?http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6847012

ICE

I went to work this morning at 6:30. It wasn't raining yet, it was freezing and windy, but no rain. Starting at 7am, it started. By 9:30 when the restaurant closed because the city was shutting down due to weather, I couldn't drive home- too icy and no chains for the tires, I had to walk. Walking 10 minutes home in Texas in an ice storm is fine, the land is flat. In Portland, well, lets just say I was on my butt all the way down the street...looking like I was on a sled, but that was just my wet jeans...and then walking on my knees and balancing up a hill to our home. So, now we are drinking warm stuff and stuck in the house with the car still parked at Noah's for a day or two. Stay warm!

3. That Martin Lawrence movie where he becomes a knight in 14th Cen England (never actually saw it, but the premise alone has to make it a candidate).

...last couple weeks of freedom...

So the new job starts in about two weeks and I've been enjoying the last bit of free time with the wife like none other. I love the fact that we can do nothing and enjoy every minute of it. I also love the fact that our environment is such that we could simply take a long, scenic drive and have a completely enjoyable day for the price of a coupld of gallons of gas. Not a bad deal.

Katie's heading to Missouri via DFW on Wednesday to be a bridesmaid in her friend Abby's wedding. Originally, I was simply going to work and trudge through a lonely week. Now, with the unexpected time off, Katie bought me a surprise ticket to Dallas for a few days to hang out with my family and friends. It'll be nice, considering I haven't been in Texas around the holiday season for the last two years. I also learned that my good college buddy Jay will be in Dallas that very weekend. I'm thinking we're going to have to converge on Jeff's downtown pad and hit up a few of the Lover's Lane pubs. Lookin' forward to it.
