Turkey Day

I haven't spent a Christmas or Thanksgiving with any of my family members (save my wonderful wife) in two years. My parents are actually coming to our neck of the woods to spend a few days in the wet wilderness of the northwest. My dad makes it to these parts every few months on business, but this will be the virgin voyage for my mom into the wooded wonder that is Portland. Okay, I'm flirting with alliteration a little too much her, so it's time to stop before I hurt myself. We wish everyone a poultry-filled family feast day coupled with football festivities. Ahoy.

Tests, Rain and More Blogage

So, the GRE was fun. Not horrible, not fantastic. Somewhere definately in between. I'd like to take it again, but I don't know if I have enough time before my application is due. My application will be fine with what I have, but I scored below the mark that I was hitting on practice tests and I know I could do a bit better. It's always frustrating to operate below your potential. I didn't budget my time well enough and had to speed through a significant portion at the end, which is never good. Oh well, the weekend made up for it.

We had a great time in Seattle! I love my wife and how well she takes care of me. We hung out downtown, slept a whole lot and hit the Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame. I dig that town.

In other news, we started a new blog for the married community house. Apparently, some are curious as to the goings on in the collective lives of the Alpernardo's. It's something we considered early on, but ruled out for various reasons. We finally broke down and the results are here: www.thirtyeighthavenue.blogspot.com. Should be fun.

Impending doom...

Here's the good news: I'm taking a vacation day tomorrow!

Here's the bad news: I'll be spending the better half of my vacation day taking the GRE.

More good news to counter-act the bad: Katie decided to spoil me for studying so much, so she made reservations and is taking me to Seattle for the weekend to, well, celebrate...hopefully. I'm stoked either way. It's been over a year since we've been.

Question for all you standardized test takers of past, present and future: Would you want to know your score as soon as you're finished? These days you take the test on a computer that tells you exactly what you got the second you complete the last question. There's no agonizing anticipation, but it's still either instant relief or instant despair. If the despair is gonna come, wouldn't you rather wait four to six weeks and have time to mentally prepare? On the other hand, finding out right away that you rocked it is all up side. I dunno.
