It's Christmas Break!!! Oh to be a student. I just finished my semester work sample and turned it in today. Which means, for all you non-educational people out there, that I am finished for a while. Some of you had mentioned you wanted to see the makeup designing stuff. Here are two pictures that I took of student's work. Not bad.

Fun stuff. Have a good week.
Katie

p.s. I am seeing the Nutcracker tonight. Tights on mice- what could be better?

I love Christmastime.
I love movies at this time...it gets the spirit rolling.
So far this season, I've seen:
White Christmas
Holiday Inn
Noel
How the Grinch stole Christmas
(part of) Very Brady Christmas
The Littlest Elf
and more.

And there is a list 'to see'.
Yes, I'm kindof a nerd. I've been dubbed the "bad movie" picker at the video store. But alas, I have a good time and enjoy the holidays.

it's true. we saw a pre-showing of it last night with 4 of our friends. our pastor bob and his wife had connections with a local church and got 6 tickets to a "children's viewing". I sat next to a little boy named Riley who could tell me that Aslan was really Jesus, and who made motor boat noises with his lips anytime he got scared in the movie. he sat on the edge of his seat the whole movie, and with the exception of the mouth noises, there really wasn't a peep out of him.

i was really excited for the movie. as most of you know, i am obsessed with the books. but, no movie could ever measure up to the story. It was good. Great. It had it's high points. There were many things I would have done differently. And I'm convinced that no Aslan will ever be portrayed well enough, unless of course, I direct it. So if anyone wants to sponsor that goal- please let me know. Hope all enjoy it.

Well, my cooperating teacher is ill today. And I am running the show. But, as legal things tend to do, I can't run it by myself, I need a sub cause of the 'law'. Ah well.

I am sitting in a large theatre black box office, blogging. I have no classes this period. I have to teach, what is called, a Work Sample for licensure. (Oregon, by far, is the hardest place to get licensed in the US) This means I create my own unit, and implement it, and see what the effects of the desired goals were. I decided that for my drama license, that I wanted to teach make-up design. And not the Covergirl make-up, mind you, but the real "I want to make a Predator mask" design. (in my other life, I would have worked for Weta production company doing just this) So, I am teaching, in 5 days, the how-to's of character make-up designs, with anything from old age to fantastical. Let me tell you, this is fun stuff. I know I enjoy it more than the kids do, which makes me really strict and excited all rolled into one.

So, this week, they are learning to render designs (draw them on paper), and next week they will be implementing them on their own faces. Great stuff.

Anyway, that's what's going on in the world of high school theatre, and student teaching. It's almost Christmas break. Yea!

Love katie

p.s. I, as opposed to my husband, did not make a perfect score on the writing aspect of the GRE. Please excuse the above errors. :) Love you honey!

Inconsistency

If a blog is a commitment, we've been seriously delinquent in our obligations of late. I don't know what it is. Maybe it's because I feel like my posts are a little self-absorbed. I used to post about more than just the general scheduling of day-to-day life. I wish I could make time to do that again, but I find myself apathetic. Well, perhaps it's not so much a case of apathy as it is a lower-rank of priority. If I've got a spare fifteen minutes, I'd usually rather read a book, make a cup of coffee or read the blogs of others rather than think of something insightful to say myself. I dunno, at leat we're consistently inconsistent. Does that count for anything?

So, on to the regularly scheduled, narrowly-focused update on what's been going on... My Urban Studies class has wrapped up, which means I'll have an extra night free to focus on extrospective blogging. It was a pretty good course and has definitely piqued my interest to learn a little more. I finally got my official scores for the GRE. While I was less than satisfied with my performance on the Math portion of the exam, I did pretty well on the Verbal and was shocked to get a perfect score on the Analytical Writing section. Katie's been staying busy as usual with classes and is now student teaching five days a week and taking classes more in the evenings. We went to one of her student plays a few weeks ago and I was more than pleasantly surprised at the talent of her students. I can see why she's excited to go into the field. I'm getting more excited about the possibility of going back to school. My application is due next month and I just received my last letter of recommendation. In the meantime, I put in for a new position at my work in the Marketing department as a Communications Specialist. They're looking for way more experience than I actually have, but I'm interviewing next week nonetheless, so keep your fingers crossed for me. Do you think it would be inappropriate to list blogging on a resume? I've got over two years of experience.

And now a blurb about the world at large:

USC has won 34 games in a row and Arrested Development has been officially cancelled. Shocking on both fronts. That's all I've got. I need to read a paper, eh?

Goodnight folks.

Wait, one more thing that I find strangely ironic: The word "blog" is not recognized in Blogger's spellcheck.
