May 24
So, about a year and a half ago, Michael and I stepped into a small pub called The Lucky Lab to attend our first Evergreen service. Upon entering the room, a guy with a red, curly fro came walking up and introduced himself as Chris. We chatted with him for a while and he then introduced us to Karli, his wife. Karli had long blonde hair and Michael liked to tease her yelling "Vote for Summer!" everytime we parted. Since then, the 4 of us have become very close living together in this house we could never afford. Karli has become one of my dearest friends. Many laughs, many freak-outs (possible pregnancies, etc.), and she and Chris also allowed me the priviledge to be around during their 1st daughter's birth. I feel so blessed to have the Leonardo's in our life. We love crazy Ania and feel so cool that she lives upstairs and we get to see her everyday.
All this to say that May 24th is a special day- Karli's birthday.
Happy Birthday Summer.

DaVinci BaBinci
People are really hyped about this movie/book. I mean, I have heard more conversations about this lately than say- the weather. A lot. I saw the movie today, I am not going to say anything so feel free to read on. I didn't read the book. The only knowledge I had about this was from some friends who loved it and a couple protesters. The interesting thing- I have heard these theories before from people who believe them. (not from the book) But now, my protesting friends are banning the book because it is heresy. Did Dan mean it to be fiction? Because it says fiction as a genre. Or did he mean to break open the truth of the world?
There are people on both sides of this issue. A big church up here recently preached against reading the book or seeing the movie because "it will only encourage them." While some of my friends commented "it was a great read!" Why do we (as Christians) feel so threatened?
(pause- my phone rang)
My friend, with whom I saw the movie and who just called to provide the following information, just had a phone call from her mother.
The conversation unfolds as follows:
"Hey honey, what did you do today?"
"Me and Katie went to a movie."
"What did you see?"
"DaVinci Code."
"Miss ____ (middle name) _____, I am SO Disappointed in you!!!"
"Why, mom?"
"That movie is against the Bible and you are giving them money!"
"Mom, what do you mean? Have you read it?"
"No! Of course not! I actually don't even know what it is about!"
"Mom, it's fiction! Dan Brown would say he wrote fiction!"
"Still."
I don't know what to say. I was entertained by the film. Anyone have anything to write?

Hmmm....what to do now?
I graduated. I went to Disneyland, and yes, rode Indiana Jones more times than i can count. (Totally fun times)
Now, I am working part time teaching at the high school I student-taught at. I am planning on going to Texas for 2 weeks, then possibly working at Noah's (the bagel shop) again all summer. Weird.
Oregon's teacher job market is as opposite from Texas' as it could get. Texas is ALWAYS hiring. In Texas one can work if the undergraduate hours or degree are sufficient. In Oregon there are a surplus of Masters and PHDs walking around and normally there are around 100-200 applicants for each opening. It's just a tighter market.
However, I have applied for many, i repeat many jobs. Most of the peak hiring times haven't started yet, so don't freak people. I am not. It's been a week! But, I am really excited to teach next year, wherever.
My hubby is sick. Sad. He took some benadryl and went to bed. He's so cute.
Can't wait to see the family and friends in Flower Mound. Soon!

TV on the Radio
So after freakin' out over their new and as yet unreleased album (as well as the oldies) for quite some time, Chris, Loren, Michelle and I caught the sold out TV on the Radio show last night at the Doug Fir. If you haven't heard the auditory splendor that is this eclectic band, you owe it to yourself to invest some ear-time. I brought along the new digital camera and caught a few songs on video. The quality isn't amazing, but better than I expected. Check out the vocal power and the magical beat-boxing goodness. I'll have some more videos uploaded here soon.
