Created for Community

A rainy, Portland Sunday. I love it when it rains at church, hearing the rain on roof during worship. It's cleansing in its own way.
It's been nice to have this community, especially when we're far away from family. We were blessed to connect with good people very quickly upon our move to PDX. Last week was two years for us here and those same good folks have stood by us...and I know they'll continue to do so.
On another note, I'm looking forward to sitting in on the Theology Pub discussion starting this week, led by none other than my red-haired roomie, Chris. We're loosley working throught the book Created for Community by Stanley Grenz. It's a good read, should you come across it. He orientates the basics of theology around the idea of community, and does so quite eloquently. Here's a snapshot from the introduction:
Well put. And as I hear Chris spinning Sufjan upstairs (who he got to see Friday - lucky duck) I think it's time for a nice up of joe to keep the rainy day well-fueled. Ciao.

Why community? - because the focus of community encapsules the biblical message, it stands at the heart of the theological heritage of the church, and it speaks to the aspirations and the sensed needs of people in our world today. In short, as we realize that we are created for community, we are in a position to connect Christian belief with Christian religion.

Back to it...
Back to work after a long weekend. Time well spent, but it went by much to fast, as it always does. It's been a while since a post and I realized that the last "Jesus Camp" post was a rather odd one to leave hanging out there for a few weeks. As a means of transition, I thought I'd throw a video that I finished last week from the recent Evergreen campout. Good times had by all.
